Hotel Eliseo is located in the heart of Montegrotto Terme, at 2 km from Abano Terme and at 10 km from Padua, in a truly privileged position for a 3-star hotel and immersed in the tranquility of a very green park that gives to a treed promenade along Viale Stazione with its many stores, boutiques and cafes.
Montegrotto and Abano Terme are part of the Terme Euganee area. They are on the slopes of the Euganei Hills, in the midst of lush nature, ancient towns, medieval abbeys, splendid villas and gardens, and thermal waters known since Roman times for their curative and regenerating powers. Indeed, the old Mons Aegrotorum was, since Roman times, a place to visit and spend time at the thermal spas.
Montegrotto is a very nice locality with wide treed avenues on which the gardens of the beauty farms face. It also has a bustling center with lots of entertainment options. In the background, the Euganei Hills gently break the flatness of the surrounding landscape. The hills are of volcanic origin and constitute the Euganei Hills Regional Park, a land to be enjoyed and discovered by the many nature, historic, artistic, and wine and food itineraries available either on foot, mountain bike (Hotel Eliseo supplies maps with routes and organizes guided excursions!), or horseback. 18,000 hectares of lush and very diversified flora which ranges from Mediterranean scrub, chestnut and oak forests, to vineyards and olive groves where many protected animal species live free: foxes, badgers, weasels, roe deer and boar, and more than 120 species of birds.
…in the surrounding area
Among the towns, Arquà Petrarca conserves intact the medieval charm from the time when the Poet Petrarch lived here during the last years of his life.
Ancient places of intense devotion and spirituality such as San Daniele Monastery, on top of the hill of the same name, and Praglia Abbey, a rare, artistic landmark of imposing size and beauty.
Other noble and impressive dwellings of high historic and artistic value are Castello del Catajo, with large rooms decorated with frescoes and with the splendid Giardino delle Delizie (Garden of Delights), Villa Barbarigo at Valsanzibio, whose garden is one of the highest examples in Italy and in Europe of typical Italian-style garden, and Villa Emo Capodilista, in Palladian style, with interesting frescoes and very beautiful park.
The Euganei Hills are also synonymous with flavors and original culinary traditions: a must stop are the cellars and trattorias to taste the DOC wines, honey and olive oil, Montagnana DOP prosciutto, "risi e bisi" (rice and peas), "lumache e torresani" (snails and pigeons), herbs of the Colli ("bruscandoli" (hop shoots), "gallinelle" and "sparesele") and berries (mulberries, raspberries, pomegranate, jujube fruit, corbezzoli -arbutus or tree strawberry).
You should visit the Montegrotto Terme, only a few steps from Hotel Eliseo, and also the “Butterfly Arc”, a tropical garden where 400 different types of butterflies live in freedom, also the Bosco delle Fate (Fairy forest), a nature itinerary between magic and science, in a large natural park of 7,000 sqm.
